Introducing our Athletes of the Week program! Each week, Williston coaches nominate one student-athlete from their team who stood out by demonstrating our core values of purpose, passion, and integrity. These athletes show exceptional dedication, leadership, and sportsmanship, both on and off the field, embodying what it means to be a Williston Wildcat. Read below for more information on each of the Athletes of the Week.
PJ Gasasu ‘27 -Boys JV Basketball
PJ, a sophomore, led the Wildcats with 12 points in the boys JV basketball teams season-opening 49-19 win over Berkshire. The win was a total team effort, with every player contributing through stifling full-court defensive pressure and opportunistic offense turnovers. PJ was a big part of this effort. He has worked hard in practice and brings a positive attitude that elevates the play of those around him. PJ will be an important piece to the success of the team this season.
Margaret Edwards ’25 – Girls Varsity Basketball
Margaret, the senior captain, stepped up for the girls varsity basketball team this week. Margaret contributed a total of 39 points in our first two games. After dropping 17 against Ethel Walker on Friday, but failing to get to the foul line, Margaret made a great adjustment the next afternoon. On Saturday she got to the charity stripe nine times. She also hit from behind the arc four times, contributing a total of 22 points against KO. Beyond her scoring, Margaret is a leader on the court because of her outstanding passing and her strong communication. Margaret’s positive and intelligent leadership in practice and games will be a big part of our team’s story this season.
Maizy Lonergan ’30 – Girls JV Basketball
As a 7th grader, she totally took charge in the team’s first win of the season, going up against a tough and seasoned KO squad. Maizy played every single minute at point guard, dropping 2 points, dishing out 6 assists, and snatching 3 steals, all while locking down the other team’s star player! Her endless energy and can-do attitude created a fun and competitive atmosphere on the court. Her teammates and coaches look forward to her continued growth and contributions as they move through the rest of the season.
Gab Qureshi ’25 – Boys Varsity Hockey
Gab has had a strong start to the season, leading by example on the ice and competing with tenacity and poise. Gab tallied 7 points in wins over Academie St. Louis and Vermont Academy, all in the form of assists, distributing the puck well in both even strength and power play situations. In addition, Gab has had a positive bench attitude working on elevating his teammates around him. The Wildcats will continue to lean on his strong play and leadership this season.
Nora Curtis ’25- Girls Varsity Hockey
Nora led the Wildcats to their first win on the road at St. Paul’s, scoring two goals and recording one assist. She played every shift with grit, determination, and heart, inspiring her teammates throughout the game. Her positivity on the bench and “can-do” attitude were contagious. Nora is a fierce competitor who has shown incredible growth over the past four years. She has truly stepped up and will be a key leader for the team this season.
Aaron Entebi Sheinberg ’26- Boys Swimming and Diving
Aaron opened his Williston swimming career with a bang this weekend. He finished 2nd in the 50 free and 1st in the 100 breaststroke while also contributing incredible swims to two relays. His points and enthusiasm helped propel the boys to a big win over NMH. He has a powerful personality and is going to be an influential member of the team this season.
Finlay Kavanagh ’27- Girls Swimming and Diving
Finlay has had a great start to her swimming career at Williston. A consistently positive influence at practices, Finlay is a great teammate and demonstrated great leadership and enthusiasm in our first meet of the season. She turned in great swims in the 200 free and 100 back and the coaches are excited to see how she progresses this year.
Oscar Cui ‘25-Boys Varsity Squash
As a Senior co-captain, Oscar led the team through warm-ups, difficult fitness sessions, drills, and challenge matches. He also arose victorious in the start of season mini tournament. Oscar did all of this without the help of his co-captain who was away. He has set a serious tone for the team, emphasizing arriving early for warm-ups, trying your best even in the face of defeat, and giving transparent feedback to players after matches. The Wildcats look forward to a great season with Oscar leading the way.
